Brief: Volunteer Support Worker for GCSE Homework Club
Queen’s Crescent Community Association is dedicated to the betterment of the lives of the local community. We consist of a Youth, Older People’s and Children’s service. Every week, more than 700 people aged 0 – 100 use our services to learn, play, socialise, improve their health and receive support and advice.
Until 2014, The Dome (our Youth Club) was host to a regular Homework Club. It encouraged a constructive and academic aspect to our regular evening sessions. We are recruiting to encourage attendance over GCSE period and strengthen the academic potential of our current users.
The need for an academic aspect to our Youth Club is great. The local community of Gospel Oak is particularly deprived, with many young people achieving low grades, truanting and exiting education early. The Dome is a social hub, primed to convert detrimental behaviours into positive ones. The Homework club will make a significant difference to the attitudes to, and success in education.
Volunteers for the Homework Club will be responsible for the support of GCSE candidates. This will include answering subject-related questions, offering revision techniques and explaining knowledge of their given subject to 15-16 year olds clearly and succinctly.
We’re looking for 1 hour per week from volunteers. Ideally, they will have had some experience of tutoring or work with young people. We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about their subject, and are able to explain related information with brevity and enthusiasm. This altruistic interest for the bettering the prospects of a deprived community
Successful volunteers will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. Please contact: email@example.com with a CV and brief cover letter to apply or for more information.
